Jabez Dreams

Oil on canvas

Nina Bohlen’s work is deeply rooted in the experience of place.  In the vein of figurative expressionism, Jabez Dreams is a landscape painted from memory rather than direct observation.  One cold dark winter the artist received a spectacular bouquet of flowers from Hawaii from her sister.  A year later she painted the flowers from her imagination, adding her pet parrot Jabez, an addition that completed a painting of “an exotic bird dreaming of an exotic landscape.”  Coming from the darkness of winter, Jabez and the flowers visualize a peaceful happy memory.
