May Stevens was born in Quinicy, Massachusetts where she studied at the Massachuestts College of Art and the Art Students League in New York. She is best known for her work in feminism and politics alongside being an artist, writer, and poet, finding the feminist journal, Heresies. Many of her artworks use symbolic figures to represent the struggles of feminism, using her love of history to bring women figures to life with vivid, deep colors.
