Danforth From Home: Virtual Artist Talk with Catherine Smith

Catherine Smith is an installation artist, sculptor, and collector.  She uses unique materials in her works, expecting that the meaning she embeds in each piece will shift with the viewer’s personal experience.  Her approach to collecting follows the same path.  Twenty 19th and 20th century photographs of women from her collection are currently on view at the Danforth, in conversation with works from the Museum’s permanent collection.

Free and via Zoom

Join Catherine Smith and Curator Jessica Roscio for a virtual Zoom discussion as they explore Catherine’s photography collection and book, Women in Pants. We’ll talk about the works on view, the collection as a whole, the artist as collector, and the ways women used the camera to experiment with identity and comment on women’s role in the Victorian era.

The talk is free with registration.  Please register here and an email will be sent with the zoom link for the talk. Questions for the artists can be submitted in advance with registration.
